ReplicatorG 0017 now available!
ReplicatorG 0017 is now available for your 3d printing pleasure! This is a pretty big update– you’ve got STL preview mode, Skeinforge integration, bug fixes, usability improvements, better error reporting, and a raft of other stuff. Why are you even reading this? Grab a copy from the download page, and read this quick guide to the new features.
Update 6/18/10 6:30
The initial release on Friday morning had a couple of bad bugs (trouble with Java 1.5, and problems selecting a new serial port) that slipped by. These have been fixed. If you downloaded a release earlier today and had some trouble with it, pick up the latest version (-r2) and give it a whirl.
Here’s a list of the major changes in this release:
- STL Preview mode added; you can now open STL files directly in ReplicatorG.
- Skeinforge is now run directly from ReplicatorG; you never have to see the Skeinforge Tk interface again (unless you want to!)
- Skeinforge support for arbitrary preferences directories
- Skeinforge now provides progress information for slow operations
- Start and end gcode scripts are now added directly to Skeinforge output without further processing (this should fix the “random end-of-build moves” that some have reported).
- Header now contains tabs for parallel gcode and STL files
- Autoscanning of serial ports has been removed
- Individual “return-to-zero” buttons added to the control panel for each axis
- Numerous bug fixes
A lot of members of the community pitched in on this release! A big thanks to:
- Aaron Colwell (Improved packet handling for 0-length payloads)
- Rick Kimball (Fix for Mac OS X build issues)
- Charles Pax (Much Skeinforge hacking and patient testing)
- lotu (Individual axis return-to-zero buttons in the control panel)
- Steve Jasik (Mac PPC beta testing)
(It’s been a little hectic getting this release out the door, so if I left anyone out, please let me know and I’ll add you to the list.)
As always, leave a comment or drop a line and let me know how this release works (or doesn’t!) for you.

ReplicatorG 0017 including Skeinforge and generating gcodes is amazing! Unfortunately my 1st attempt at gcode generation crashes Python on OS X 10.5.8 on a PPC cpu iBook (2005).
[07:49:57] Beginning toolpath generation.
[07:50:00] Assertion failed: (b.imag != 0.0), function _Py_c_quot, file Objects/complexobject.c, line 116.
[07:50:07] Unrecognized error code returned by Skeinforge.
[07:50:07] Toolpath generation failed!
Moved the STL file (nophead’s version of wade’s extruder gear) to another Mac (2009) running OS X 10.6.4 with Intel cpus and it runs just fine. I just use the old laptop to feed MakerBot electronics and don’t expect PPC support to generate gcode. The Mac Pro 8-core can do the heavy lifting
Keep up the great work! Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

Bravo on the new ReplicatorG!
The new 3D preview is pretty slick.
I love the skeinforge integration, and the multiple profiles. It is so nice not to have to constantly switch between the 2 programs to make tweaks, slice, and print new objects.
Kudos to everyone who contributed to this fantastic new version!!!
